Why Setting Big Goals Transformed Our 2025 Strategy Meeting

Our strategy meeting for next year took a hard pivot in the middle of our planning session.

My golf cart partners and I met to plan out 2025 and make major decisions.

We were discussing our revenue goals and one partner said he thinks we can grow 15%.

I immediately used a word I won’t repeat here but the phrase was similar to ‘forget that’.

I want to double for 2025 otherwise we are wasting our time.

Our conversation changed immediately. Instead of deciding between 15 different strategies, we whittled down to just the few that could get us to our goal.

We mapped our fixed and variable costs and then projected where the changes would put us.

We discussed the logistical and practical steps needed to make each one happen.

And we decided on what to prioritize and how to execute to reach our goal.

Our alignment did not come from sweating over a mission statement for hours or a long-winded set of company values.

It came from setting a big, measurable goal and pushing ourselves to figure out how we can get there.

Too many priorities mean nothing is a priority.

It’s going to be painful and require a shift in our model but we’re all on board.

Big goal setting is incredibly simple but powerful. For us, our alignment comes from goals and the numbers will provide feedback.

Let me know how you and your team are getting on the same page for 2025!
